 FAQs

  • Thai Massage originated in India and made its way to Thailand where Ayurveda and Yoga mixed with Buddhism and native Thai culture and healing. It’s done on a floor mat with clothes on and no oil. It softens and lengthens muscle and fascia and improves circulation promoting health and vitality. On the subtle level, Thai manipulates energetic channels bringing balance to the body as well as the mind. All the stretching and thumbing is specifically to open the sen (energetic channels).

  • The benefits of massage are both local and systemic. Massage can help resolve pain and the patterns that may cause pain, reduce scar tissue, increase mobility, and improve blood flow. Systemically, massage has great benefit on the health of the nervous system and the immune system which in turn improves the functioning of every system in the body. Because of this, massage has innumerable benefits for the mind by increasing the ability to relax, to sleep, to eliminate waste, and to feel more comfortable in one’s own skin.

  • This depends entirely on the person and their goals. Many people come in for a once a month tune up. People who are experiencing pain may need to come in once a week until the issue begins to resolve. Remember, we’re changing long standing patterns of holding, so often, one massage will not resolve that. It takes time but you’re worth it! We can find a schedule that helps you accomplish your goals while staying within your financial means.

  • Thai Massage is done fully clothed always. Table massage, which generally uses oil or cream is often done without clothes but draped so that the breasts, genitals, and gluteal cleft are never revealed. If you’re not comfortable removing your underwear, it’s totally fine. We can work around it or through it without oil. Your comfort is most important.

  • No! It does not need to hurt. There is a difference between moderate therapeutic discomfort and pain. Often, less is more and has longer lasting benefit. That said, some people like very firm pressure but still, it should never hurt to the point that your nervous system needs to guard or tense up - that is counterproductive. Finding a goldie locks pressure is the goal and that sometimes takes some conversation between client and therapist to get it right for you. This is a great time to practice advocating for yourself, your needs, and your wants. You can talk to your therapist about what your feeling in the massage!
